01 Pick the tool from the problem, not from the tab you had open.
02 The edge cases are the product: retries, rate limits, observability, data consistency, race conditions, and failed payments that must not double-charge.
03 Decide from product intent, ops constraints, and what the team needs to keep moving. Then write it for the next person: readable code, honest docs, boring deploys.
I stay close to the path a request takes — schema, API, UI, and the failure modes in between. I care more about owning the outcome than collecting tickets.
I work best with teams that move fast without leaving landmines behind. Clear trade-offs, honest status, and systems that still make sense when someone else has to touch them later.
